October 2015
Hello again to all of our members and families and friends! We wanted to update you on
what’s been happening at our program before we head into the holiday season that is fast
approaching!
Our days are always filled with learning opportunities geared to each individual to maximize
their potential. Everyone participates in lessons that address money management skills,
vocabulary, art, current events, social skills, job exploration, and even Spanish lessons.
Cooking classes and daily lunch preparation increases everyone’s recipe repertoire.
Afternoons are filled with outings and we’ve had some wonderful experiences over the last
few months. We’ve visited the AZ Science Center, putted at Glow Golf, toured the Cardinals
Stadium, enjoyed the Phoenix Auto Museum, and made a splash at Lorraine’s Pool Party.
Most recently we had the opportunity to bring out our inner “ape” at the Ape Index Indoor
Rock Climbing Gym.
A special thank you to Shelbey’s mom, Barb, for inviting us to visit her ranch ~ complete
with a pot belly pig, goats, a mini burro, chickens, horses that include a Clydesdale, a Mule
Arabian, and a Percheron. And let’s not leave out the three dogs and a cat! The perfect end to
the trip was a barbecue lunch provided by the Buffalo Chip Restaurant in Cave Creek.
We haven’t forgotten about the importance of exercise, and all members go to the Virginia
Piper Sports and Fitness Center once a week. Here they have the opportunity to utilize
circuit training equipment, weight lifting, and walking/running on the track. We still love to
bowl every week and it’s also great for fitness and for social fun…stay tuned for more
information coming soon about joining Special Olympics! Members are encouraged to give
back to the community and ADS continues to be active volunteers for the Tool Bank of
Phoenix. Our members are also active in housekeeping skills at ADS and we’ve implemented
an end of the month Pizza Reward Party for all of their newly learned and proficient skills!
ADS is happy to announce that we are currently working on providing group supported
employment for eligible members. Please contact a staff member for further information.
ADS has also received eligibility as a Qualifying Charitable Organization. Persons can donate
to ADS and receive a tax credit. Call us at the program (602-296-5781) for more information.
Because we are always looking for new ideas and comments on how we are doing, please
take a moment to comment on our post. This is your chance to help us make the progra
even better for everyone!
Thank you!
